Higher risk for mesothelioma among those not occupationally exposed to asbestos
These starting mesothelioma results come from a study conducted by Italian public health officials who looked at the records of nearly 200 people who died of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases between the years 2000 and 2017. They focused on the population of a small town that was the site of an asbestos plant for more than 60 years, analyzing their medical records to determine exactly what their exposure was. To their surprise, they found that those who did not work in the factory had a higher risk for mesothelioma than those who were exposed on the job, and concluded that no amount of asbestos exposure could be considered safe.
Study shows that small exposure can lead to deadly disease
