Along with his wife, mesothelioma victim Frank K. Krohmer of South Dakota has filed a personal injury lawsuit against multiple manufacturers and suppliers whose asbestos-containing products he blames for his fatal illness. Mr. Krohmer was diagnosed with the disease on August 7, 2024.

Mesothelioma Lawsuit Accuses Companies of Choosing Not to Warn About Asbestos
According to his claim, Mr. Krohmer was exposed to asbestos during the many years that he worked at Tollefson Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning as a plumber and HVAC professional, and later at his own company, Krohmer Plumbing, Inc. He started working in the plumbing and HVAC trades in approximately 1972.
His lawsuit claims that he was exposed to a wide range of asbestos-containing products, including asbestos-containing gaskets, packing, boilers, turbines, valves, pumps, thermal insulation, board, cement, and steam traps, and that the manufacturers of those products that are named in the couple’s suit “affirmatively chose not to adequately warn of the lethal hazards of breathing asbestos dust, often deciding not to issue any warning at all, despite the fact that these asbestos companies knew that breathing small amounts of asbestos dust could be fatal.”
Mesothelioma Victim Seeks Punitive Damages for Willful, Wanton, Gross Negligence
In addition to seeking economic damages for the harm he suffered, the mesothelioma victim and his wife are seeking punitive damages against the companies named in their lawsuit. They call the companies’ choosing not to warn, not to issue recall letters to prior users, the frustration of the publication of articles about asbestos, and rejection of the advice of corporate officials to warn intentional, willful, and done with willful disregard of the safety of Mr. Krohmer and others who worked with their products. As a result of the companies placing profits over people, the couple is seeking additional compensation in the form of punitive damages.
Among the companies named as defendants in the mesothelioma lawsuit are 3M Company, A.O. Smith Corporation, Armstrong International, Inc., Burnham Corporation, Buffalo Pumps, DAP Products, Inc., Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation, General Electric Company, and the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. All are frequently accused of failure to warn of the danger of their asbestos-containing products.
