St. Louis Man’s Mesothelioma Linked to Work as Mechanic
Bill Trokey was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in 2020. His illness was traced back to the years he spent working as an automotive mechanic in local garages, where he repaired and replaced asbestos-contaminated Ford brakes.
When he was diagnosed with the rare and fatal form of cancer, he filed a mesothelioma lawsuit against the automotive giant, accusing them of negligence for having failed to warn about the dangers of the carcinogenic material that contaminated their products.
Jury Awards Mesothelioma Victim $10 Million, and Another $10 Million to his Wife
In finding Ford Motor Company guilty of negligence in causing Mr. Trokey’s malignant mesothelioma, the jury provided him with $10 million to compensate for his medical expenses, loss of quality of life, and pain and suffering. They also provided his wife with $10 million for loss of consortium.
Speaking of the impact that mesothelioma has had on her husband, Cathy Trokey, said, “I lose a little bit of him every day, and every day he loses a little bit of himself.” The couple has 11 grandchildren, and prior to his diagnosis Bill had spent much of his time attending their sporting events and enjoying his hobbies, including watching baseball and going to car shows.
Speaking of the injustice of Mr. Trokey’s mesothelioma, a family representative said, “Bill made all the right choices. He worked for his dad’s mechanic shop, served his country in the Army and worked hard for his family. He should be enjoying his retirement with his grandkids, but instead he’s fighting a cancer diagnosis that could have been prevented.”
