A former hairstylist diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma has filed a claim against multiple cosmetic and talc companies, accusing them of negligence and fraudulent concealment of the presence of asbestos in their products. New Mexico resident Hector Maese says he was exposed to the products both occupationally and outside of work.

New Mexico Man Blames Talc Exposure for Malignant Mesothelioma
In his product liability claim filed in the New Jersey court system, Mr. Maese argues that his malignant epithelial mesothelioma resulted from his occupational and para-occupational exposure to asbestos-containing talc products from the mid-1970s until the 2020s. He specifies Club Man and Jeris products, Mennen and Palmolive for Men, Estee Lauder, Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder, and others manufactured and sold by American International Industries, Colgate-Palmolive, Estee Lauder, and Johnson & Johnson.
Mr. Maese suggests that the companies knew or should have known that their talc products were a risk for mesothelioma. He points to multiple studies dating as far back as the late 19th century linking talc with asbestos and the mining locations from which each company sourced their talc – all were known to also contain tremolite asbestos, actinolite asbestos, anthophyllite asbestos, and/or chrysotile asbestos.
Mesothelioma Victim Accuses Cosmetic Talc Companies of Conspiracy
Basing his claim on the multiple studies available to each company, the mesothelioma victim accuses the named defendants of choosing to ignore the health and safety issues and conspiring and/or acting in concert with each other and others to withhold the information from users of their products. He is seeking compensation for the damages that he has suffered.
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease after using cosmetic talc products, you are not alone: Nearly 100,000 cases are pending against Johnson & Johnson alone.
