Mesothelioma Tragedy Continues in the United Kingdom

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare and fatal form of cancer striking approximately 3,500 Americans every year. Its impact is far greater in the United Kingdom. The European nation has a much smaller population than the U.S. but sees 2,700 mesothelioma deaths and 5,000 asbestos-related disease deaths each year, representing a much larger ratio of incidence.  Though measures to protect the public are being taken now, it’s too late for victims like Roger Lambert, whose recent death has led his brothers to take investigative action and join an educational campaign.

Mesothelioma Victim Worked for Well-Known Poultry Provider

Mr. Lambert died of malignant mesothelioma at the age of 70, but before his death, the Alby, UK native identified his former place of employment as the source of his asbestos exposure. His brothers have now taken up his legal case, seeking information about asbestos at the Bernard Matthews turkey farm and processing plant where he’d worked and simultaneously joining in Action Mesothelioma Day, an awareness campaign.

Roger’s brothers are trying to find former workmates who can explain where asbestos was found in the plant or anywhere else that might be linked to his mesothelioma. They know that he’d started working for Bernard Matthews in 1979 and had worked at two different sites. Though he was largely responsible for trussing turkeys, he also had to cover for other employees when they were out and swept up after maintenance teams that left dust behind from lagging and cladding that had been disturbed.

Mesothelioma Claims UK Man’s Life One Year After Diagnosis

According to Roger’s brother Andrew, Roger began experiencing symptoms, including a cough and breathlessness in 2022. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2022 and died of the disease in September 2023. Speaking of the disease’s impact on his brother, he said, “Roger went from being an outgoing and independent person to someone totally reliant on others. It was awful to see how the cancer took hold of him and robbed him of his life.”

The brothers are continuing to look for Roger’s ex-workmates who can speak to the presence of asbestos on the job, as well as to support Action Mesothelioma Day campaigns being held in the United Kingdom.
