Seeking End to Mesothelioma Risk, Anti-Asbestos Advocates Launch Day of Action

Despite exposure to asbestos leading to malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, and other serious and deadly diseases, lobbying efforts by the chemical industry have led to its continued use in the United States. While the EPA considers banning its use, anti-asbestos advocates are taking matters into their own hands: they have announced a day of action to ban asbestos and are asking the American public to join them in their efforts.

Mesothelioma Advocates Urged to Join Virtual Day of Asbestos Awareness

A virtual day of asbestos awareness has been announced by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, starting with a letter campaign calling on Congress to reintroduce the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now (ARBAN) Act. Alan Reinstein died of malignant mesothelioma, and since his death, his widow Linda Reinstein co-founded the organization dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of asbestos.

Speaking of today’s action, Mrs. Reinstein said, “The facts are irrefutable — asbestos kills. The Virtual Day of Asbestos Awareness and #BanAsbestos Action is a renewed effort in our shared fight to ban asbestos and its use. Americans bear the ultimate asbestos hardship from suffering, disease, and death. While the chlor-alkali industry continues to peddle their propaganda and put their profits over public health — Americans want Congress to finish the job and ban asbestos now.”

Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act Would Diminish Risk of Malignant Mesothelioma

Exposure to asbestos causes malignant mesothelioma, and though legacy asbestos that remains in place in buildings, infrastructure, and equipment poses a continued threat, banning its current use in industrial applications would go a long way towards preventing future illness and death.

The day of action calls on Americans to participate in and publicize a letter-writing campaign across social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Participants can sign on and submit their letters to Congress instantly by clicking on this link.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, you know how important banning the use of asbestos is.
