Washington State Woman’s Mesothelioma Blamed on Asbestos in Talc Products

A Washington state woman and her husband have filed suit against multiple defendants, including Colgate-Palmolive, accusing them of being responsible for her malignant mesothelioma diagnosis. Linda A. Stange and her husband, Arlen, blame asbestos in talc that she used personally, as well as asbestos in talc products that her husband used personally and was exposed to in his workplace.

Several Defendants Named in Mesothelioma Lawsuit

The mesothelioma lawsuit filed by the Stanges names several defendants, including Block Drug Company, Inc.; Colgate-Palmolive Company as successor to Cashmere Bouquet; Coty, Inc.; Gold Bond Co.; Pfizer, Inc.; and Walgreens Company. It asserts that Mrs. Stange’s used the company’s asbestos-containing talc products daily throughout her life from the 1940s to the 2000s, and that she was also exposed to asbestos-containing talc products through her husband’s use of them daily from 1987 through the 2000s, as well as through her husband’s employment with some of the named defendants.

The mesothelioma complaint includes multiple counts against the defendants, including negligence as to the manufacturers of the asbestos-containing products, willful and wanton conduct deserving of punitive damages, and conspiracy.  In the conspiracy count, the couple accuses the defendants and others of agreeing and conspiring among themselves and with other asbestos manufacturers, distributors, and trade organizations, as well as insurers, to deceive and misinform the public. They claim that toxicology and epidemiology studies, records of meetings, and records of plant and premise inspections were destroyed, including information about the incidence of mesothelioma in workers.

Mesothelioma Victim Accuses Companies of Suppression, Concealment, and Misrepresentation

In seeking both compensatory and punitive damages against the defendants, the Stanges indicate that they will present significant evidence of a conspiracy to suppress, conceal, and misrepresent the dangers of asbestos, leading to her own suffering and the suffering of many others. In response to the mesothelioma claim, the companies denied all allegations and removed the case to federal court.
