Chakravarthy B. Reddy MD
Dr. Chakravarthy B. Reddy is an interventional pulmonologist in the Department of Medicine at the University of Utah Health and School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, and an investigator at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. He specializes in treating patients with lung cancer, airway disorders, and malignant pleural effusions, including those that manifest in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
He performs flexible and rigid bronchoscopy, pleuroscopy, and endobronchial ultrasonography to diagnose, stage, and manage patients with lung disorders.
Education and Career
Dr. Reddy attended medical school at the Mysore Medical College in Mysore, Karnataka, India, and completed an internship in General Medicine/Surgery at the Krishna Rajendra Hospital. He then completed a clinical clerkship in Internal Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York. He then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine and an additional fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology at the Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Reddy later earned a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah, which he has applied to the development of technologies to improve patient care.[1]
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Reddy is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Association of Bronchology, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Thoracic Society. He also volunteers and does community service locally and internationally, including performing health care screenings in both Africa and Ecuador.
Research
Dr. Reddy’s research focus is the development and adoption of methods and technologies that non-surgically diagnose and treat cancers of the chest and developing technologies that improve patient care, patient outcomes, and clinician experience in hospitals and clinics. He is a co-inventor of the ReddyPort NIV Elbow which enables oral care to be administered to patients on non-invasive ventilation, helping to prevent hospital-acquired infections and improve patient comfort.[1]
