Andrew R. Haas, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Andrew Haas is a pulmonologist and Associate Professor of Medicine in Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Bronchoscopy Director and Director of the Interventional Pulmonary and Thoracic Oncology Program. His clinical expertise in interventional pulmonary and thoracic oncology has made him a leader in the care of patients with lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Dr. Haas focuses on patients with benign and malignant pleural diseases and benign and malignant airway and parenchymal lung disorders. He performs advanced diagnostic procedures including intrathoracic lymphadenopathy, therapeutic bronchoscopy, and tumor debulking, as well as performing diagnostic procedures on patients with suspected malignant pleural conditions.[2]
Education and Career
Dr. Haas graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and then earned his medical degree at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. While there, he also earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Molecular Biology. He then completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, as well as fellowships in Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and Interventional Pulmonary Training there. He also completed intensive training in rigid bronchoscopy in Marseille, France.[2]

Research
Dr. Haas’ research interest is in early-phase novel immunotherapeutic clinical trials for patients with thoracic malignancies. He works closely with Drs. Steve Albelda and Carl June to translate pre-clinical animal model data into human clinical trials.[1]
