Anthony W. Kim, MD, MS, FACS
Dr. Anthony W. Kim is an internationally respected thoracic oncologist and surgeon. He leads the thoracic surgery division and program at Keck Medicine of University of Southern California and at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is an expert in thoracic oncology, including in treating malignant pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer, specializing in minimally invasive surgery, including both thoracoscopic and robotic surgery. He is also a gifted surgical teacher.[1]
Education and Career
Before entering the field of medicine, Dr. Kim earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering at Columbia University and Northwestern University, respectively. He then went on to earn his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois and remained at Rush University Medical Center to complete both a General Surgery residency and a Cardiothoracic Surgery residency. He completed a clinical fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian Hospital and a fellowship in Medical Education at Yale University’s Teaching and Learning Center.[2]
Today, he is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Division Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Keck Medicine of USC, as well as the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations for the Department of Surgery at the University of Southern California and Co-Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program at the USC Norris Comprehensive Care Center of Keck Medicine of USC.[1]
Memberships and Honors
Dr. Kim is a frequent presenter and moderator for panel discussions of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. He has served on committees for several other international organizations, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of University Surgeons, and the Association for Academic Surgery.
Dr. Kim has been recognized with several honors and awards, including the Francis Gilman Blake Award for Outstanding Teaching of the Medical Sciences at Yale University School of Medicine. His research is frequently published in highly esteemed medical journals.[1]
