Elbert Kuo, MD
Dr. Elbert Kuo is a cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery approaches for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and cancers of the mediastinum and pleura, including malignant pleural mesothelioma. He is skilled in the use of endoscopic, laparoscopic, video-assisted, and robotic techniques for the management of both benign and malignant surgical diseases of the chest and foregut.[1]
Dr. Kuo believes it is a privilege to be able to help patients with complex medical problems. He advocates for open communication between the physician and the patient and their support structure to ensure that they fully understand the challenges and collaborate on the right solution and treatment plan.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Kuo attended Brown University as an undergraduate, completed its Gateways Master of Science in Medical Sciences Program, and earned his medical degree at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School. He earned a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University and completed a residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Thoracic Surgery from Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.[1]
Dr. Kuo is board-certified in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Before joining Banner Health, he served as the director of the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Program, Mediastinal Staging Clinic, and the Lung Cancer Screening Program at S. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
