Francis D. Sheski, MD
As a pulmonologist and critical care specialist, Dr. Francis D. Sheski is an invaluable member of Indiana University’s Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. His clinical interests include interventional pulmonology for lung cancer and pleural diseases, and he specializes in bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy.[1]
Dr. Sheski makes invaluable contributions to Indiana Health’s lung cancer program, which supports screening through IU Health, The Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, and the Richard L. Roudebush (Indianapolis) VA Medical Center Hospitals. He is also part of the cancer center’s multidisciplinary thoracic oncology program, where he participates in tumor boards and collaborates with other physicians to provide comprehensive care to lung cancer patients, as well as those diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma and other thoracic cancers. He is also an Associate professor of Clinical Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.[1]
Education
Dr. Sheski has an extensive educational background that began with earning a bachelor of science degree and a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Kenosha, then went on to complete a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Florida, an additional residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Indiana University.
Dr. Sheski is board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine.
Research
Dr. Sheski’s research interests focus on the development of new technology and techniques related to lung cancer, interventional pulmonology, general pulmonary medicine, pleural effusions, and COPD/emphysema. He is particularly passionate about the detection of early lung cancer and identifying alternatives to invasive surgical treatments.[1]
He has published numerous articles in prestigious medical journals, including the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Respiration, Endoscopy, and Chest. He has also presented at national and international seminars in respiratory and critical care medicine.
