Henning Gaissert, MD
Dr. Henning Gaissert is a thoracic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and leads its department at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts. He has extensive experience in the use of traditional open surgery and minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and other thoracic malignancies.
In addition to lung cancers, Dr. Gaissert’s clinical interests include esophageal cancer, chest wall tumors, thoracic cancers, tracheal disease, and surgical reconstruction of complex swallowing disorders.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Gaissert’s educational journey began at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen in Munich, Germany, where he earned his medical degree. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and an additional residency in Surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital before completing fellowships in Cardiothoracic and General Surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital and a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.[1]
After completing his medical education and training, Dr. Gaissert led the Section of Thoracic Surgery at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital for several years before returning to practice at Massachusetts General Hospital.[1]
