Jose Luis De Cardenas, MD
Dr. Jose Luis De Cardenas is the Director of the Interventional Pulmonology Program at the University of Michigan and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Michigan and at the Rogel Cancer Center. His clinical focus is on complex airway and pleural diseases as well as the early detection, treatment, and management of lung cancer.[1]
Dr. De Cardenas has technical expertise in the use of minimally invasive advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic and pleural procedures and critical care ultrasonography. He is dedicated to early detection, treatment, and management of complications of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies as well as patients with benign diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and post-lung transplant. He is also dedicated to medical education of residents and fellows in pulmonary and critical care.
Education and Career
Dr. De Cardenas earned his medical degree at the Facultad de Medicina, Universidad National de Trujillo in Peru, then followed that education with an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Jacobi Medical Center in New York. He pursued two fellowships: one in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and one in Combined Interventional Pulmonology at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical and Massachusetts General Hospital.[1]
Dr. De Cardenas is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Interventional Pulmonology.
