Patrick Forde, M.B.B.Ch.
Dr. Forde is an internist and oncologist dedicated to treating thoracic cancers like mesothelioma, and researching the impact of immunotherapy in the treatment of lung cancer and mesothelioma. He is currently an Associate Member of the Bloomberg Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy and the director of the Thoracic Cancer Clinical Research Program at Johns Hopkins’ center for research dedicated to lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other thoracic cancers.
Education and Career
Dr. Forde’s medical education began in Ireland, where he earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons, then continued to a residency in internal medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, and then went on to multiple medical oncology residencies and fellowships. After completing a fellowship in oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he became Associate Professor of Oncology at Johns Hopkins Medicine.[1]
Dr. Forde is currently Johns Hopkins Medicine’s Director of the Thoracic Cancer Clinical Research Program, an associate member of the Bloomberg Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, part of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also Co-Director of the Division of Upper Aerodigestive Malignancies in the Department of Oncology, where he treats patients with lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other thoracic cancers.
Research Interests
Dr. Forde’s research has led to numerous advances in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma, including FDA approval of neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy for the treatment of surgically operable lung cancer. He is the principal investor for the thoracic cancer immunobiology biospecimen repository protocol at Johns Hopkins and has led development of a clinical-translational research program focused on the impact of immune-oncology of upper aerodigestive malignancies.[2]
