Divya Sood, MD
Dr. Divya Sood is a surgical oncologist at the Knight Cancer Institute and OHSU Health in Portland, Oregon. She specializes in treating patients with abdominal cancers, including malignant peritoneal mesothelioma, and is particularly skilled in the use of the complex procedure known as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This procedure begins with removing all visible tumor material, and then applying a solution of concentrated heated chemotherapy directly into the surgical site. The procedure is only available at a few facilities throughout the United States.[1]
Dr. Sood manages her patients’ complex malignancies with a strong focus on what is best for the patient. She works as part of the Knight Cancer Institute multidisciplinary gastrointestinal cancer team to ensure that treatment decisions consider all aspects of quality of life.
Education and Career
Dr. Sood completed her undergraduate education at Cornell University, where she graduated with a bachelor of science degree. She earned her medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School, then completed her internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of California, San Diego. She pursued a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the University of Chicago and another in Cancer Therapeutics Research at the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California San Diego.[1]
In addition to seeing patients at the Knight Cancer Institute and OHSU Health, Dr. Sood is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the OHSU School of Medicine.

Research
Dr. Sood is an active researcher. Her interests lie in investigating molecular and cellular biomarkers to improve understanding of who will benefit the most from different types of treatments. She is interested in designing more inclusive clinical trials to ensure that all patients have better access to advanced technologies and therapies.
