Muhanned Abu-Hijleh, M.D.
Dr. Muhanned Abu-Hijleh is a pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, TX. He has over three decades of experience in treating patients with pleural and lung diseases, including malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Dr. Abu-Hijleh’s clinical focus includes interventional pulmonology; therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for lung disease; cancer screening; lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies; airway diseases, including advanced COPD and advanced emphysema; pleural diseases, and other lung disorders. He is particularly interested in the development of new technologies and interventional pulmonary procedures and treatments.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Abu-Hijleh earned his medical degree at the University of Jordan and then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. While there, he also completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and participated in numerous mini-sabbaticals in Interventional Pulmonology.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Abu-Hijleh holds numerous roles, including Director of Interventional Pulmonology, Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy at Clements University Hospital, and Director of the COPD Clinic and Program for the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is also a member of UT Southwestern’s Robotics Committee and Critical Care Committee.[1]

Dr. Abu-Hijleh is an active researcher. He is a current and past principal investigator and co-investigator whose work has resulted in the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and other published works.
