Leora Horn, MD, MSC, FRCPC
Dr. Horn is the Global Clinical Head for Lung Cancer and Lung Cancer Strategy for AstraZeneca, working within the company to progress research and delivery of better cures for patients diagnosed with lung cancer. Speaking of her work, she says, “Recent research has helped us better understand lung cancer biology and our approach to targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and ADCs, individualizing therapy for more patients and addressing mechanisms of resistance. I’m excited about the work we’re doing to deliver the next wave of treatments for both small-cell and non-small-cell lung cancer.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Horn attended the University of Toronto as an undergraduate and for medical school and completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology there as well. She later completed a sub-specialty fellowship in Thoracic Oncology at Vanderbilt University that was funded by an award from the Canadian Association of Medical Oncology.[2]
Following completion of her medical education and training, Dr. Horn accepted the position of Ingram Associate Professor of Cancer Research at Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center and served as Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As Clinical Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program, she primarily focused on caring for patients with lung cancer.[2]
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Horn is an active member and served on the scientific committees of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.[1]
Research
Dr. Horn leads Astra Zeneca’s global lung cancer research efforts. She works with lung cancer teams across the company’s oncology divisions to advance scientific discovery and bring better treatments to patients diagnosed with the challenging disease. She has been working as a researcher since her time as a postdoctoral research fellow in thoracic oncology at Vanderbilt University and has served as Principal Investigator on several national and global lung cancer trials for immunotherapies, targeted therapies, and novel treatments across early and late development.[1]
