Prakash Neupane, MBBS
Dr. Prakash Neupane is a medical oncologist at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, where he specializes in the care of patients with head and neck cancers and thoracic cancers, including lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma. In addition to his clinical role, he is a Professor of Medical Oncology, Program Director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program, and the Director of Fellowship at the School of Medicine.[1]
Dr. Neupane participates as part of a multidisciplinary lung cancer team including other oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, and pathologists. The group meets regularly to discuss treatment plans for patients diagnosed with advanced diseases, discussing the options that best meet patients’ conditions and goals.[1] Dr. Neupane is also on staff at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, where he provides expertise and compassionate care to veterans diagnosed with asbestos-related diseases and other malignancies.
Education and Career
Dr. Neupane earned his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at the Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital (affiliated with New York Hospital/Cornell University in Bronx, New York), and a clinical fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.[1]
Dr. Neupane is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has served on its ITE Task Force. He is board-certified in both Hematology and Medical Oncology.
Research
Dr. Neupane’s research focuses on head and neck oncology and thoracic oncology. As co-chair of the head and neck cancer disease working group, he is engaged in several clinical trials exploring new cell therapies.[1]
