Dao Minh Nguyen, MD
Dr. Dao Minh Nguyen is a thoracic surgeon, cardiothoracic surgeon, and oncologist with the University of Miami Health System in Miami, Florida. He is currently the Chief of the Section of Thoracic Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, a Professor of Surgery, and Co-director of the Site Disease Group Lung of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. He plays a significant part in all aspects of general thoracic surgical care, including multi-modality therapy for locally advanced lung cancer, cancer of the esophagus, and cancers of the pleura, including malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Nguyen earned his medical degree at McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, Quebec, and completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery residencies there as well. He then completed a fellowship in Thoracic Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center before returning to McGill as an Assistant Professor of Surgery.[1]
Following his medical education and training, Dr. Nguyen also served as a principal investigator in the Section of Thoracic Oncology, Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health before accepting a role at the University of Miami Health.[1]

Research
Dr. Nguyen’s research focuses on optimizing surgical outcomes for patients who have undergone operations for thoracic malignancies. He works to develop strategies to minimize opioid use following these procedures, as well as to improve outcomes following robotic thoracoscopic surgical procedures. Additionally, he collaborates with basic scientists whose research centers on translational lung cancer research.[2]
