David S. Kwon, MD, FACS
Dr. David S. Kwon is a surgeon and surgical oncologist at the Henry Ford Health System’s Center for Cancer Surgery in Detroit, Michigan. He is also the Physician in Charge of the Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion. Dr. Kwon’s clinical interest is the multidisciplinary management of solid tumors, including malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. He is recognized as an expert in advanced surgical techniques and in a complex procedure that combines cytoreductive surgery with a heated, concentrated solution of chemotherapy.[1]
He specializes in assessment and treatment planning and is dedicated to providing compassionate care for his patients while working to improve survival, shorten recovery times, and minimize treatment-related side effects.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Kwon attended Columbia University as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and then completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital. While there he received multiple research and clinical awards, then went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.[1]
Dr. Kwon has practiced at Henry Ford Health since completing his medical education and training, rising from his initial position as a surgical oncologist to his present roles of Medical Director of the Center for Cancer Surgery, Division Head of Surgical Oncology, and Physician in Charge of the Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion.[1]

Research
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Kwon is the Clinical Director of the Henry Ford Pancreatic Cancer Center, where he leads efforts in advancing early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer. He is also interested in the identification of radiographic biomarkers indicating the early presence of disease, health and healthcare disparities, and surgical outcomes.[1]
