Edmund K. Moon, MD
Dr. Edmund K. Moon is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Interventional Pulmonary and Thoracic Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is an academic researcher working to study the immunologic tumor microenvironment in thoracic malignancies and augmenting adoptive T-cell immunotherapy for thoracic malignancies to improve outcomes for patients suffering from lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and other pulmonary diseases and thoracic malignancies.[1]
Dr. Moon says that as a medical student, cancer originally held no interest for him, but the possibility of establishing a research lab that would join interventional pulmonary and thoracic oncology with an immunotherapy initiative piqued his interest and confirmed his decision to invest in a cancer research career. He hopes that his work will yield improved treatment outcomes for patients diagnosed with these challenging conditions.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Moon earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, and completed his internship and residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.[2]
Research
Dr. Moon has two primary areas of study: characterizing the immunologic tumor microenvironment in thoracic malignancies and augmenting adoptive T-cell immunotherapy for thoracic malignancies. He has contributed to research on immunotherapy and antigens and has an index of authored and co-authored articles that have appeared in 55 publications and received 3,796 citations.
