Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin are located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer Care at Froedtert Hospital
Froedtert Hospital’s Thoracic Cancer Program has been recognized as high-performing by U.S. News & World Report. It treats patients with a range of lung cancers, as well as esophageal cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma. As an academic medical center, Froedtert prides itself on being at the forefront of the latest techniques, therapies, and options including surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy protocols that can both extend life and diminish symptoms. The program’s multidisciplinary tumor board meets regularly to discuss each patient’s treatment plan, carefully modifying and adjusting the treatment plan to match their progress and condition.[2] Patients will soon benefit from the availability of Proton Therapy, which will be arriving at Froedtert in 2025.[3]
Froedtert is one of the few facilities in the country that can offer patients diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma access to the complex surgical procedure CRS with HIPEC, or cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This is currently the most effective therapy available for this rare form of cancer, offering patients extended survival and improved quality of life.[4]

Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin boasts a multidisciplinary team of experienced, knowledgeable physicians who leverage state-of-the-art technology and treatment approaches for the treatment of pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, and peritoneal mesothelioma.
The Thoracic Cancer Program’s multidisciplinary team of specialists includes medical oncologist Dr. Jonathan Thompson and thoracic surgeons Dr. Mario Gasparri and Dr. David Johnstone, both of whom have decades of experience and expertise in the use of minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques designed to improve outcomes for patients with lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma.[2]
Patients diagnosed with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma will benefit from the care of surgical oncologist Dr. Ugwuji N. Maduekwe, an expert in the application of cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.[4]
