Jesus Esquivel, MD
Dr. Jesus Esquivel is a general surgeon specializing in oncologic surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware. He is one of the world’s authorities on this complex procedure, which provides significantly improved outcomes for patients diagnosed with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma, as well as other gastrointestinal and gynecologic cancers.[1]
Dr. Esquivel’s combined use of cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC is used to treat patients with colorectal cancer, appendiceal cancer, ovarian cancer, and peritoneal mesothelioma.
Education and Career
Dr. Esquivel graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas Medical School in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He later completed a General Surgery internship and residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., then went on to an additional surgical residency at New York Presbyterian in Queens, where he served as Chief Surgical Resident.[1]
His professional experience includes positions in social service in Mexico, as an Attending Physician of General and Oncology Surgery at Kaiser Permanente, and as Director of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies at St. Agnes Health Care Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Esquivel has served as an Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Adjunct Member of the United States Military Cancer Institute. Dr. Esquivel performed his fellowship at the Washington Cancer Institute for Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology, then became the National Director of HIPEC Research and Medical Director of Global Oncological Services at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.[2] He later was named Attending Surgeon and Director of the Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Maryland.[1]
