John Federico, MD
Dr. John Federico is an expert in general thoracic surgery, including both traditional open surgery and minimally invasive robotic, thoracoscopic, and laparoscopic techniques. He is a member of Coastal Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and practices at Portsmouth Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, caring for patients diagnosed with lung cancer, as well as diseases of the pleura like mesothelioma, and of the chest wall and mediastinum.[1]
Dr. Federico’s expertise in endoscopy, including skills in lung cancer staging, complex bronchoscopy for treatment of obstructing cancers, and lesions of the esophagus, and his laparoscopic techniques for treating tumors of the airway, lungs, chest wall, mediastinum, esophagus, and thymic gland, have led to his recognition as a top thoracic surgeon.
Education and Career
Dr. Federico attended Georgetown University for both his undergraduate and medical school education. After earning his medical degree, he completed Thoracic Surgery fellowships at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, England, and a Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery fellowship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital in Ontario.[1]
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Federico served as associate professor of surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and as Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He then went to Kalispell, Montana, where he developed a thoracic surgical service line serving the state of Montana.[1]
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Federico is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Research
Dr. Federico’s research interests address all aspects of thoracic surgery, particularly the impact of minimally invasive procedures on patient outcomes. He has been published in many peer-reviewed medical journals and invited to speak on pulmonary and cardiothoracic conditions nationally and internationally.[2]
