Laurence Brinckerhoff, MD
Dr. Laurence Brinckerhoff is a thoracic surgeon with expertise in treating patients with lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus. He is the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Boston Medical Center and the Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts.[1]
Dr. Brinckerhoff has specific skills in treating lung and esophageal disease using minimally invasive and robotic surgery techniques including video-assisted thoracic surgery.
Education and Career
Dr. Brinckerhoff received his bachelor’s degree in psychology/chemistry from the University of Vermont and his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Colorado Health System.[1]
Following the completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Brinckerhoff spent three years working within the University of Colorado’s cardiothoracic surgery department. He then joined Tufts University School of Medicine and Tufts Medical Center in Boston where he served as Associate Professor of Surgery, Chief of the division of General Thoracic Surgery, and Chair of the Thoracic Oncology program. He also served as Director of the Surgery Clerkship at Tufts for 11 years and is the recipient of more than a dozen teaching awards.[1]
Dr. Brinckerhoff is active in professional organizations including the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Research
Dr. Brinckerhoff’s research interests are wide-ranging and include thymic disorders, benign esophageal diseases, tracheal surgery, chest wall tumors, infectious lung surgery, minimally invasive surgery, esophageal cancer, and lung cancer.[1]
