Raed M. Alnajjar, MD
Dr. Raed M. Alnajjar is a cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeon at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. As Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery, he oversees care for patients diagnosed with thoracic malignancies and diseases of all kinds, including lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma. Dr. Alnajjar is also a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University and a member of the core faculty staff for the Henry Ford Macomb General Surgery Residency Program.[2]
Dr. Alnajjar’s skills include robotic and minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures.
Education and Career
Dr. Alnajjar earned his medical degree at the University of Jordan Medical School and an initial General Surgery residency at the Islamic Hospital in Amman, Jordan. He then completed an internship and residency in Surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac Michigan and a fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at the Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.[1]
Dr. Alnajjar is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the American Board of Surgery, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and the Jordanian Board of Surgery. Following the completion of his medical education and training, he joined the Henry Ford Health System.[2]
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Alnajjar serves as a board member and chair of the education committee at the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons and co-chair of the Media Committee at the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.[2]

Research
Dr. Alnajjar is actively involved in clinical trials and research investigating improved outcomes for patients undergoing cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeries. He is currently a participant in the 2019-06 TRISCEND study, a prospective, multicenter study to assess the safety and performance of the Edwards EVOQUE Tricuspid Valve Replacement System, as well as studies investigating quality improvement in lung cancer and thoracic disease surgery and treatment.[3]
