Sharmila Roy Chowdhury, MD
Dr. Sharmila Roy Chowdhury is a surgical oncologist who practices at the Goshen Center for Cancer Care in Goshen, Indiana. She has advanced training in the use of cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, which she uses to treat patients diagnosed with malignant peritoneal chemotherapy. Dr. Chowdhury also has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, gastrointestinal cancers, sarcomas, and endocrine tumors using traditional surgical techniques as well as laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Chowdhury earned both a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery degree at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research at the University of Madras in India. She completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and General Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell at Staten Island University Hospital and completed residencies in General Surgery at Ascension Providence in Southfield, Michigan, and at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She also completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she had the opportunity to hone her skills in cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.[1]
Before joining Goshen Center for Cancer Care, Dr. Chowdhury practiced at HCA North Texas and Southwest Cancer Surgery in Plano, Texas.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Chowdhury is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Society of Surgical Oncology.[1]
Research
Dr. Chowdhury’s research interests are peritoneal mesothelioma, gastrointestinal oncology, peritoneal carcinomatosis, and cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC.[1]
