Steven D. Herman, MD
Dr. Steven Herman is a thoracic surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. As an expert in advanced surgical techniques for the treatment of lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and other thoracic malignancies, he holds senior academic appointments at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, Hackensack Meridian Health School of Medicine, and SUNY-Downstate Medical School.[1]
Dr. Herman was among the first surgeons to perform advanced thoracoscopic surgery. He performed the first minimally invasive VATS lobectomy in the New York region and has particular expertise in the management of lung cancer, complex chest malignancies, and neuroendocrine tumors of the chest.
Education and Career
Dr. Herman earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering.[1]
Before joining Maimonides Medical Center, Dr. Herman served as Chief of Thoracic Surgery at both SUNY-Downstate/Long Island College Hospital and Hackensack Meridian Health/Mountainside Medical Center in New Jersey.
Professional Activities and Memberships
Dr. Herman is an active member of several professional medical organizations and committees, including the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, the General Thoracic Surgical Club, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and serves on the Admissions Committee of the American College of Surgeons Brooklyn/LI district.[1]
