Syed Osman Ali, MD
Dr. Syed Osman Ali is a cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeon at Tampa General Hospital of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He has extensive experience in thoracic surgery and in the use of pleurectomy and decortication, the lung-sparing surgery that is used to great effect in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Dr. Ali is skilled in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques. His expertise extends to cardiac surgery, robotic mitral valve surgery, lung transplantation, and redo surgery.
Education and Career
Dr. Ali received his medical degree from Aga Khan University in Pakistan. He completed his General Surgery internship and residency training at the University of Connecticut and then completed a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. He also completed a fellowship in Cardiac Surgery and Robotic Training at the Cleveland Clinic.[1]
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Ali spent several years as a staff surgeon and assistant professor at the University of North Dakota Medical School and Altru Health System and at Loyola University in Chicago, where he served as the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at MacNeal Hospital.[1]
Research
Dr. Syed Osman Ali’s research interests focus on improving outcomes for patients undergoing minimally invasive heart surgeries and other thoracic surgical procedures. His investigations have included the use of robotics, multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting and complex coronary revascularizations, and novel applications. of pleurectomy and decortication.[1]
