Thomas J. Miner, MD
Dr. Thomas J. Miner is a surgical oncologist and the Chief of Surgical Oncology at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He is also an Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University as well as the Associate Surgical Residency Program Director there.[1]
Dr. Miner offers treatments for patients diagnosed with all types of advanced cancers including pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, and lung cancer. His efforts in surgical oncology have been directed towards promoting surgical decision-making based on patient outcome data, teaching effective decision models for considering palliative procedures, and emphasizing symptom management and quality of life in the surgical patient with advanced cancer. He is also skilled in the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
Education and Career
Dr. Miner’s undergraduate education was completed at Dartmouth University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. He earned his medical degree from Brown University through the Dartmouth-Brown Medical Program and then completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.[1]
