Carrie B. Lee, MD, MPH
Dr. Carrie Lee is a medical and thoracic oncologist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Professor at the UNC School of Medicine. Her clinical practice focuses on lung cancer, and she has experience with traditional chemotherapy protocols as well as novel regimens. She is also the Chief Medical Officer for UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Clinical Research.
Education and Career
Dr. Lee earned her medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University. After graduation, she completed her internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and never left.
Following completion of her residency, she completed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology as well as a residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.[1]
Today, Dr. Lee is a professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Chief Medical Officer of UNC Lineberger Clinical Research. She is also the Medical Director of the N.C. Basnight Cancer Hospital Clinical Trial Unit.
Dr. Lee’s clinical practice focuses on lung cancer treatment. While her focus is on lung cancers, she also treats mesothelioma and melanoma.
Dr. Lee loves taking care of people. She has a passion for providing compassionate oncology care and says that when she treats patients, she approaches them as a whole person rather than as a statistic. She approaches each with attention to how the illness is impacting their day-to-day life as well as how it affects the other people in their lives.[1]
Dr. Lee has been appointed chair of the Association of American Cancer Institute’s Clinical Research Initiative Steering Committee, which is responsible for developing better methods to disseminate information across cancer centers, identifying and addressing clinical research challenges, and measuring progress on behalf of AACI. She is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.[2]
Research
Dr. Lee is passionate about advancing the science behind the development of new anti-cancer treatments. She has spent much of her career developing and leading cancer clinical trials.
