Federico Tozzi, MD
Dr. Federico Tozzi is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. His clinical interests include gastric, pancreatic, liver, colon, and rectal cancers, as well as breast cancer and melanoma. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.[1]
Dr. Tozzi has special expertise in the complex surgical procedure known as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This procedure removes all visible tumor material and then bathes the surgical site with a concentrated, heated chemotherapy solution that kills microscopic cancer cells that surgery may have missed. This procedure has proven to be highly effective at improving outcomes for patients diagnosed with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
Education and Career
Dr. Tozzi graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Siena in Siena, Italy with a Doctorate of Medicine degree. He completed an internship in Pediatrics at the University of Siena and an internship in Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic & Abdominal Organs at the University of Southern California and a post-doctoral fellowship there at the Saban Research Institute. He then completed another internship in General Surgery at the Houston Methodist Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College in Houston, Texas, and a fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Tozzi also completed a residency in General Surgery at the Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, and a General Surgery residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio.[1]
After completing a clinical fellowship in Complex Surgical Oncology at the City of Hope National Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California, he joined the Division of Surgical Oncology at UT Health San Antonio.
