Paul F. Mansfield, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Paul F. Mansfield is a Professor and surgical oncologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. In addition to his surgical skills, he has special expertise in the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy infusion following cytoreductive surgery, a complex procedure that has significantly extended survival outcomes for patients diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma.
Education and Career
Dr. Mansfield holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College, both of which are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He completed a General Surgery internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and then completed a Surgical Oncology Research fellowship and a Clinical Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.[1]
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Mansfield remained at MD Anderson, taking on the role of Medical Director of Infusion Therapy and Deputy Department Chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Mansfield is currently a surgical oncologist at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. He is a professor of surgical oncology. Dr. Mansfield is well known for his expertise in treating rare abdominal cancers, like peritoneal mesothelioma.
He is one of the few surgeons who can offer these patients cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC, one of the most effective treatments for peritoneal mesothelioma. Dr. Mansfield is also skilled in minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Mansfield’s clinical interests are in appendiceal, gastric, and peritoneal cancers. He is vice president of Acute Care Services at MD Anderson and has won numerous awards throughout his career:[1]

Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Mansfield is on the scientific and advisory boards of many organizations dedicated to those with abdominal malignancies, including Debbie’s Dream Foundation and No Stomach for Cancer.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member and past chair of the Houston Hospice Board of Directors.[1]

Dr. Mansfield has authored and co-authored over 140 articles and chapters in peer-reviewed publications and has given presentations at numerous national and international conferences. His research focus is on gastrointestinal, appendiceal, and peritoneal malignancies.
