Paul F. Mansfield, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Paul F. Mansfield is a Professor and surgical oncologist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. In addition to his surgical skills, he has special expertise in the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy infusion following cytoreductive surgery, a complex procedure that has significantly extended survival outcomes for patients diagnosed with malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.
Dr. Mansfield’s clinical interests are in appendiceal, gastric, and peritoneal cancers. He is vice president of Acute Care Services at MD Anderson and has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the National Cancer Institute’s Research Fellowship Trainee, the American Cancer Society’s Clinical Oncology Fellowship Award, Outstanding Teacher Award, Faculty Achievement Award for Patient Care, the Ehrenzeller Award, and the Patient’s Choice Award.[1]
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Mansfield remained at MD Anderson, taking on the role of Medical Director of Infusion Therapy and Deputy Department Chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Mansfield is on the scientific and advisory boards of many organizations dedicated to those with abdominal malignancies, including Debbie’s Dream Foundation and No Stomach for Cancer. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member and past chair of the Houston Hospice Board of Directors.[1]
Research
Dr. Mansfield has authored and co-authored over 140 articles and chapters in peer-reviewed publications and has given presentations at numerous national and international conferences. His research focus is on gastrointestinal, appendiceal, and peritoneal malignancies.
