Mark Richard Dylewski, MD
Dr. Mark Richard Dylewski is a thoracic surgeon at the Baptist Health South Florida and its affiliated Miami Cancer Institute in Miami, Florida. He holds the titles of Chairman of Thoracic Surgery and Director of Robotic Thoracic Surgery at Baptist Health South Florida and Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Miami Cancer Institute.[1]
Dr. Dylewski has been referred to as a “master” of thoracic surgery as a result of his innovations in robotic surgery. He has been performing robotic surgery since 2006, has trained hundreds of thoracic surgeons in how to perform surgery utilizing the DaVinci robot, and is considered one of the foremost experts on the topic.[2]
Dr. Dylewski has long believed that compared to other minimally invasive techniques, robotic surgery is well suited to thoracic surgery due to its easy adoptability, and makes great use of it in the treatment of patients diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other thoracic malignancies.[2]
Education and Career
Dr. Dylewski is board-certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. He earned his medical degree at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed residencies at the University of California Davis-East Bay and the University of Albany Medical Center.[1]
He is widely respected as a pioneer in the use of robotic pulmonary and esophageal surgery and is credited with having developed the complete port access robotic-assisted technique using the da Vinci robot to perform pulmonary and esophageal surgeries without spreading the ribs. He is invited to speak on these innovations and their use in the treatment of intrathoracic diseases at national and international conferences.[1]
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Dylewski is a founding member of the Clinical Robotic Surgical Association and an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the General Thoracic Surgical Club, and the Society of Thoracic Surgery.[1] His research includes:[3]
