Adam Lackey, MD
Dr. Adam Lackey is a board-certified thoracic surgeon and oncologist at Rutgers Cancer Institute and with the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Medical Group. Dr. Lackey provides expert surgical care for patients diagnosed with lung cancer, esophageal cancer, pleural effusions, pleural mesothelioma, and other thoracic malignancies and diseases. He is skilled in minimally invasive thoracic and abdominal procedures, including laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and robotic approaches.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Lackey earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Colorado in Aurora, Colorado, and a Thoracic Surgery fellowship at the NYU School of Medicine. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.[1]
Dr. Lackey is currently a thoracic surgeon at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and with RWJ Barnabas Health. He sees patients at three locations in Jersey City, Bayonne, and West Orange, New Jersey.
He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic procedures for thoracic and abdominal conditions, including mesothelioma. He treats both malignant and non-malignant conditions and collaborates with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Dr. Lackey feels that a big part of his responsibility in patient care is making sure that he has taken whatever time is needed to explain a surgical procedure to his patients. He wants them to fully understand every aspect of their treatment plan and care. He sees himself as a partner in their journey and is always mindful of the stress that the patient is experiencing.[1]
Research
Dr. Lackey’s research interests include a wide range of topics focusing on the surgical treatment of lung cancer, chest wall tumors, hiatal hernias and achalasia, diseases of the pleural space, and mediastinal tumors.
