Bassan J. Allan, MD, FACS, FSSO
Dr. Allan is a board-certified surgical oncologist at Lee Health Cancer Institute in Fort Myers, Florida. He cares for patients with cancers affecting the liver, pancreas, bile duct, gastrointestinal tract, and skin, as well as advanced gastrointestinal and peritoneal malignancies like peritoneal mesothelioma that respond well to the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Allan attended Florida International University as an undergraduate, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and Biology.
He earned his medical degree at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, and then completed a General Surgery internship and residency at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Allan also completed a fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.[1]
After completing his medical education and training, Dr. Allan remained at UPMC, where he focused on minimally invasive hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and the treatment of complex gastrointestinal cancers before relocating to Florida and joining South Florida Surgical Oncology. He is the first surgeon in Southwest Florida to be board-certified in Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO).[1]
Dr. Allan is currently a surgical oncologist with Lee Health. He sees patients at Lee Health Surgical Oncology in Fort Myers, Florida.
Dr. Allan specializes in complex GI, liver, and pancreatic cancers. He is an expert in HIPEC, a treatment that has been life-changing for many patients with peritoneal mesothelioma. He also specializes in minimally invasive robotic procedures and the Whipple procedure.
Dr. Allan is known for investing time in educating his patients so that they understand both their condition and their treatment options. He believes in the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach.
