Rajesh Muralee Nair, MD
Dr. Rajesh Muralee Nair is a surgical oncologist who practices within the Department of Surgery at Orlando Health Cancer Institute in Orlando, Florida. He is also a member of Orlando Health’s Graduate Medical Education team, serves as assistant professor of surgery for the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, and is a clinical assistant professor of surgery for the Florida State University College of Medicine.[1]
Dr. Nair’s special interest is in the use of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, a complex surgical procedure that combines cytoreductive surgery to remove as much tumor material as possible followed by a heated bath of concentrated chemotherapy solution poured directly into the surgical site and allowed to sit in the area where the malignancy had been for approximately 90 minutes. The procedure has proven effective in several challenging cancers that metastasize to the peritoneum, and to malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Nair attended the University of Akron in Ohio, graduating from the school magna cum laude. He also graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy. Armed with his medical degree, he spent three years as a General Surgery resident at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and then completed his surgical residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He also completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.[]
Research
Dr. Nair has been a principal investigator in multiple research projects and clinical trials. He has been invited to present his findings at national and regional medical and surgical meetings, including gatherings of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and a Tripartite meeting with similar groups from Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand in conjunction with the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Cancer Control, Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, and The Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.[1]
