Eric Lambright, M.D. FACS
Dr. Lambright is a general thoracic surgeon with special interests in pulmonary malignancies, including malignant mesothelioma. He has conducted extensive research in novel therapies for chest malignancies, including cancer gene therapies. In addition to his work at Vanderbilt, he is Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Nashville Veterans’ Affairs Hospital.
Education and Career
Born in Adidome, Ghana, Africa, Dr. Lambright spent much of his life in the suburbs of Philadelphia. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, he went on to earn his medical degree, with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors, from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also completed his residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, first in General Surgery and then in Cardiothoracic Surgery.[1]
While serving as a resident, Dr. Lambright spent two years as a research fellow in that hospital’s Thoracic Oncology Laboratory. During that time, he focused on cancer gene therapies for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma and lung cancer. He joined the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2004, and currently serves as Surgical Director of Lung Transplantation, as well as Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Nashville Veterans’ Affair Hospital.[2]
Clinical Practice
Dr. Lambright’s practice includes care of patients suffering from malignant pleural mesothelioma. He also specializes in lung failure surgery, lung transplantation, and minimally invasive techniques, including thoracoscopic procedures and transcervical approach for thymectomy. He has surgical experience in complex pulmonary resections including bronchoplastic and chest wall procedures. He is also a faculty member at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he has received recognition for his excellence in teaching medical students.
Board Certification
Dr. Lambright is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
