George I. Salti, MD
Dr. George I. Salti is a surgical oncologist, Director of Surgical Oncology, and Co-Medical Director of the Edward Cancer Center, as well as Associate Professor of Surgery and attending surgeon at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He was the first surgeon in the Chicago area to perform cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for the treatment of peritoneal or abdominal cancers. The procedure has proven to be extremely effective for the treatment of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Salti earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago at the University of Illinois Hospital. He completed a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Illinois, Department of Surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Research
Dr. Salti is actively involved in clinical trials investigating the outcomes of cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in community settings, as well as in tracking patients following those procedures via the University of Illinois HIPEC clinical data registry.
