Peter J. Kneuertz, MD
Dr. Peter J. Kneuertz is a thoracic surgeon at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and other thoracic malignancies, including malignant pleural mesothelioma. He is skilled in Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and robotic surgery, as well as extrapleural pneumonectomy and bronchoscopy.[1]
Dr. Kneuertz says that it is a privilege to work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team with a strong patient-centered approach and focus. His highest priorities are his patients, their best interest, and their overall well-being.
Education and Career
Dr. Kneuertz earned his medical degree at the University of Cologne in Germany. His General Surgical internship and residency were completed at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, followed by another General Surgery residency completed at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.[1]
Dr. Kneuertz has authored dozens of articles published in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to present at national and international medical conferences He has received awards from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and was honored by The Ohio State University with the Thomas E. Williams, Jr., MD, PhD Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Research
Dr. Kneuertz’s research involves clinical studies focusing on oncology and patient-reported outcomes. He is a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC), working on improving patient-centered care by evaluating and expanding the applications of minimally invasive techniques. He is also working on molecular staging projects. Dr. Kneuertz is also a member of the lung cancer research team at OSUCCC, a group of medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists working with radiologists, pharmacists, pathologists, and geneticists to discover, develop, and deliver research outcomes that advance surgical treatment, refine clinical procedures, and deliver highly targeted precision therapies to improve patient outcomes.[2]
