Randall Zuckerman, MD
Dr. Randall Zuckerman is a surgical oncologist at Renown Health in Reno, Nevada. He has extensive expertise in hepatobiliary surgery with expertise in liver and pancreas surgery, as well as in surgery for peritoneal cancers, including malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. Dr. Zuckerman is skilled in the complex surgical procedure known as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, which involves surgical removal of as much malignant material as possible followed by a heated bath of a highly concentrated chemotherapy solution. This surgery, which takes several hours, has been shown to provide mesothelioma patients eligible for the procedure with a significantly extended prognosis.[1]
Dr. Zuckerman’s patient care philosophy is to treat people as he would want to be treated. He explains what is going on in very understandable terms so that they are fully engaged and able to make informed decisions.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Zuckerman attended Colorado College as an undergraduate, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then earned his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. His internship and residency in General Surgery were completed at the Bassett Medical Center in Central New York, where he remained as both an attending surgeon and Co-Director of its Mithoeffer Center for Rural Surgery.[2]
Research
Dr. Zuckerman’s research interests have been focused on the delivery of surgical care in rural areas. He has authored more than fifty peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and presented at numerous national meetings.
