Roman Perez-Soler, MD
Dr. Roman Perez-Soler is an innovator and leading clinician for patients diagnosed with lung cancers, malignant mesothelioma, and other thoracic malignancies. He is the Division Chief at Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center as well as the deputy director of the Albert Einstein Cancer Center in Bronx, New York.[1]
Dr. Perez-Soler has been a champion of experimental therapies for the treatment of challenging diseases and has served as an adviser and guide for other thoracic oncologists nationally and internationally. He is dedicated to exploring the limits of immunotherapy and expanding its benefits.
Education and Career
Dr. Perez-Soler earned his medical degree and completed his residency at the medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. He completed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston/M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Perez-Soler held various roles at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and at New York University before joining Montefiore and Einstein. He holds 17 patents, founded two biotechnology companies, and created and co-chairs the Annual New York Lung Cancers Symposium.[1]
Research
Dr. Perez-Soler is recognized as a leader in clinical research aimed at the prevention and treatment of lung cancer. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed to the National Cancer Institute Board of Scientific Counselors for Clinical Sciences and Epidemiology in 2016, a group that advises National Cancer Institute leaders on all aspects of the Institute’s intramural and extramural research programs.[2]
Dr. Perez-Soler has served on numerous NCI grant review committees and has been a recipient of peer-reviewed NCI grants. He has pioneered the development of many widely accepted modalities for the treatment of a variety of cancers, including liposomes for the delivery and tumor-targeting of anticancer agents. He has also advanced the use of inhaled interventions as an early strategy for patients at risk of developing lung cancer.[2]
