Shirish Gadgeel, MD
Dr. Shirish Gadgeel is a medical oncologist who specializes in caring for patients with lung cancer and thoracic malignancies at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan. As a member of Henry Ford’s thoracic cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma team, he works collaboratively with radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, and interventional pulmonologists.[1]
The group sees approximately 650 mesothelioma patients each year, offering them comprehensive treatment that includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and minimally invasive surgeries.
Education and Career
Dr. Gadjeel is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He earned his MBBS medical degree at Grant Medical College at the University of Mumbai in India and also completed an internship in Internal Medicine there. He then completed an additional internship and residency in Internal Medicine at LaGuardia Hospital (now Long Island Jewish Forest Hills) in New York and a residency in Hematology and Oncology at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan. He also completed a fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation at Wayne State.[1]
After completing his medical education and training, Dr. Gadjeel served as director of the Thoracic Oncology Program and co-leader of the Molecular Therapeutics Program at Karmanos Cancer Institute and as a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Mary Lou Kennedy Research Professor in Thoracic Oncology at the University of Michigan/Michigan Medicine.[1]
Dr. Gadjeel has also served as faculty for the annual meeting of the education committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology as a member of its education committee and as a member of the Communications committee of the International Association of Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
Research
Dr. Gadgeel has been conducting clinical research for more than 20 years and is the principal investigator on numerous clinical trials. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed literature and was awarded the Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award in 2012 by the National Cancer Institute.[1]
