Sricharan Chalikonda, MD
Dr. Sricharan Chalikonda is a nationally recognized physician leader and pioneer in the use of highly advanced surgical procedures for malignant peritoneal mesothelioma and other abdominal cancers and diseases. He is the Chief Medical Operations Officer at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Chair of the Surgical Institute, as well as maintaining a surgical practice as part of AHN’s Center for Digestive Diseases and Cancer Institute.[1]
Dr. Chalikonda’s skills include the complex surgical procedure known as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion, which involves the removal of as much tumor material as possible followed by administration of a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy solution.
Education and Career
Dr. Chalikonda earned his medical degree from Kasturba Medical College and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Ohio University. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.[1]
Before accepting his position at Allegheny Health Network, he practiced at the Cleveland Clinic in Columbus, Ohio.
Professional Memberships and Activities
Dr. Chalikonda is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the Society of Surgical Oncology. In addition to his surgical practice, he leads clinical operations for the Allegheny Health Network’s physician organization, a role which includes oversight of surgical services provided at AHN’s inpatient and outpatient facilities.[1]
Research
Dr. Chalikonda’s research has explored many issues and advancements pertinent to his field, including the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer, the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies, and the minimally invasive treatment of liver disease.[1]
