Todd L. Demmy, MD, FACS, FCCP
Dr. Todd L. Demmy is a thoracic surgeon at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences of the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. His clinical focus is on the use of less invasive treatment options for patients in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s lung cancer program, which is the busiest in upstate New York. He has achieved a very high reliability rate while using these techniques in surgeries for complex tumors, including malignant pleural mesothelioma.[1]
Dr. Demmy is a powerful advocate for the use of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery techniques because of their ability to minimize pain and other stress-related responses, hasten recovery, and lead to fewer complications for patients. He says that they also offer additional options for patients who are too medically frail for traditional open surgeries and allow patients to progress to other modalities faster.[1]
Education and Career
Dr. Demmy attended Pennsylvania State University as an undergraduate and then earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. After graduation, he completed a general surgery internship at Baylor College of Medicine followed by a residency and research fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital-West Campus, Medical College of Pennsylvania.[1]
Following completion of his medical education and training, Dr. Demmy accepted roles at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics and Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, as well as the hospital’s Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. He later accepted a position at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and currently holds the title of Associate Professor of Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, he is also an Associate Professor and Clinical Scholar of Surgery at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.[3]
