Research
Dr. Grotz’s research work focuses on evaluating diagnostic and treatment strategies to improve perioperative outcomes for patients undergoing sarcoma, peritoneal, and gastrointestinal surgeries with the goal of creating treatment sequencing strategies that maximize clinical response while minimizing patient complications.
His research is translated into his clinical care through the use of regional therapeutic approaches that combine direct surgical access to the tumor with the delivery of high concentrations of chemotherapy or radiation. This approach allows more directed and targeted treatment while minimizing systemic toxicities.[2]
He has served as a principal investigator and co-investigator on several clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic, and is currently involved in the following clinical trial:
- Trans-Pacific Multicenter Collaborative Study of Minimally Invasive Proximal Versus Total Gastrectomy for Proximal Gastric and Gastroesophageal Junction Cancers Start of enrollment: 2022 May 11
