Prashant C. Shah, MD
Dr. Prashant C. Shah is a thoracic and cardiothoracic surgeon who specializes in complex thoracic cancer at Baylor Scott & White Health in Temple, Texas. Dr. Shah is skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma, as well as foregut and esophageal surgery.[1]
Dr. Shah’s expertise includes video-assisted thoracic lung and mediastinal surgery, as well as treatment of benign thoracic surgical problems including GERD, hyperhidrosis, Barrett’s esophagus, and achalasia.[2]
Education and Career
Dr. Shah earned his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. He completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He completed an additional residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Science Center and Maimonides Medical Center and then completed an Advanced Thoracic Oncology fellowship and a Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.[1]
After completing his medical education and training, Dr, Shah joined Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Department of Surgical Oncology in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[2]

Dr. Shah is a member of several professional medical organizations, including the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Dr. Shah’s research interests center on finding new ways of broadening the application of minimally invasive thoracic surgery and other surgical approaches to treating lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and other complex thoracic cancers.
