Sanjay Bagaria, MD
Dr. Sanjay Bagaria is a surgical oncologist and Division Chair for Surgical Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. His clinical interest lies in individualizing cancer care based on the tumor and patient characteristics.[1] His clinical focus includes the treatment of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma using a complex surgical procedure that combines cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
Dr. Bagaria also performs sentinel node biopsies and treats patients for sarcoma, melanoma, and breast cancer, as well as many other challenging conditions.
Education and Career
Dr. Bagaria completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan and earned his medical degree from the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers University. He pursued a research fellowship in Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and then completed an internship and residency in General Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College/New York Presbyterian Hospital. He also fulfilled a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute of St. John’s Health Center.[1]

Research
Dr. Bagaria’s research is focused on transforming healthcare using digital technologies. He also uses next-generation sequencing technology to study the tumor and tumor microenvironment of sarcoma, peritoneal surface malignancies, and melanoma. The long-term goal of Dr. Bagaria’s research is to develop locoregional therapies that can prevent and eradicate these tumors.[1]
Dr. Bagaria’s research is published in high-impact scientific journals and is an invited speaker for national and international organizations.
