Eugene Choi, MD
Dr. Eugene Choi is a surgical oncologist and associate professor of surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine and the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has expertise in melanoma, skin and soft tissue cancer, wide local excision, retroperitoneal sarcoma, and the complex surgical technique known as cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, which has proven to be very effective in treating peritoneal mesothelioma.
Education and Career
Dr. Choi earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago, where he majored in Biological Sciences. He earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, then completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Chicago, where he also served as administrative chief resident.
He completed a Surgical Oncology research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and a Surgical Oncology clinical fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Choi is currently a surgical oncologist and professor of surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is also a surgeon at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.
He specializes in managing and treating gastrointestinal cancers, like peritoneal mesothelioma. He also treats gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, sarcomas, and melanoma.
Dr. Choi enjoys working as a member of a multidisciplinary team of medical and surgical oncologists and radiation oncologists to provide his patients with the best care possible.
Research
Dr. Choi’s research interests include understanding the signaling mechanisms of solid tumor cancer metastasis and the development of novel drug therapies.
